The Foundation bylaws permit the creation of relationships with other Subud Associations as well as the establishment of branches in member countries. This is done in situations where member countries cannot legally recognize international foundations, like MSF, to hold assets.
The Muhammad Subuh Foundation was created in 1991 by the WSA to advance the purposes of the World Subud Association by providing financial and human resources.
Within our Subud organizational structure, the Foundation is not considered to be a ‘wing’, but rather a support organization that is a complementary partner to the World Subud Association that works towards the same mission. It is both a separate legal corporation in the U.S.A. as well as a charitable entity registered as a nonprofit organization with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the taxation division in the US government.
The appointment of Trustees and the annual budget approval is run by both organizations WSA and MSF.
“While the Muhammad Subuh Foundation has been given the degree of autonomy it needs to carry out its functions, it is an integral part of the World Subud Association and it will follow the policies set by the World Subud Association at the World Congress and carried through by the World Subud Council between Congresses. To reinforce the Foundation’s responsiveness to the Council the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman of the WSA are members of the Board of the Foundation.”
Yayasan Muhammad Subuh (YMS) was legally registered in 1989 as a charitable foundation based in Indonesia. YMS manages two assets on behalf of MSF that are held for the WSA. As set out in a Letter of Agreement between WSA, MSF, and YMS, these assets are Adi Puri (formerly Bapak’s home) and the ‘Archive house’ in Wisma Subud, Jakarta.
Yayasan Subud was legally established as a charitable foundation in Indonesia in 1976. Its predecessor, Yayasan Dana Subud, was founded in 1959. Its purpose is to hold and manage assets in Wisma Subud, a residential compound in Cilandak, South Jakarta. The assets include the main Subud latihan hall, guesthouse, and some land within the compound. In 2006, Yayasan Subud established formal ties with the Foundation through the appointment of a then-trustee of MSF as one of its Patrons. Day-to-day work of Yayasan Subud continues to be carried out by its own board of management. An agreement between the organizations was signed in 2011.
As part of this agreement, MSF will maintain a Custodial Bank Account in the name of the Subud Mexico City group. This agreement is intended to facilitate their group’s campaign to support the acquisition of a new Subud House in Mexico City.
Under this agreement, donors may direct their contributions through MSF specifically for the purposes described herein. MSF will act as the custodian of these funds, while all fundraising activities will be managed by Subud Mexico City.
